Lidköping/ Kinnekulle

Läckö Castle, Rörstrand and the fantastic view from Kinnekulle Mountain. A pearl on the shore of Lake Vänern! You can discover a range of excursions here in an environment of great natural beauty, often with an interesting historic character. The proximity to Lake Vänern provides the opportunity for exciting forays onto the shoreline. Enjoy boat-trips, thickly wooded long-distance footpaths and idyllic locations. Lidköping will give you lots of memorable moments.

The City

The city of Lidköping is actually two districts of different ages that have amalgamated. The oldest district is to be found on the eastern bank of the River Lidan and is consequently called the Old Town. This is the location of the original town, the majority of which burned down in the mid 16th century. At the end of the 17th century, Magnus Gabriel de la Gardie established a new district, this time on Lidan’s west bank. Lidköping has a rich cultural history. The picturesque old courtyards around Limtorget Square and the striking town hall in the city centre, the large number of medieval churches and the magnificent Läckö castle bear witness to a time gone by. The proximity to Lake Vänern, to shipping and fishing has also clearly left its mark. You can take a trip with a Viking ship, eat delicious specialities from fish smokeries and visit the beaches of the archipelago. Naturally there are first-rate opportunities for healthy and refreshing bathing. This is also an area of natural beauty with Kinnekulle Mountain’s wealth of species and a varied geology in the centre. The view from there out over land and water is exceptional. Lidköping has a large number of specialist shops which make shopping something out of the ordinary. Add to that several craftsmen, both in the city centre and in its surroundings. If you enjoy stopping for a cup of tea or coffee then you have come to the right place as the town probably has the most cafés in the entire country. You’ll have every chance of finding nice places for a coffee break to suit a variety of tastes. The exciting mix of ancient tradition and fresh ideas in a changing landscape of water and boats makes Lidköping a city that you’ll want to return to.
