Cook Islands - Cafes
The island of Rarotonga is the premier café location – cafés are scarce or non-existent on the outer islands. There is a good selection across the island serving a variety of coffee and snacks during the days with a number at fair budget prices suitable for the discerning traveller. Some are even open till late at night to cater for the after pub trade.
Club-Bana
Club-Bana Bistro offers daily specials. They serve excellent food to low prices compared to other cafés and restaurants at the Island. It is located at the main road at Avarua.
Maire Nui Gardens Café
Maire Nui Gardens Café is a traditional Polynesian-styled café, open daily for breakfast and lunch featuring organic produce grown in their garden.
Paw Paw Patch
This sophisticated café and restaurant has an open kitchen, which means that you are able to watch their two top chefs while they prepare a stunning presentation of dishes. The Paw Paw Patch serves cosmopolitan food with a Pacific Island flavor.
Saltwater Café
Saltwater Café, on the south coast (halfway around Rarotonga from Avarua) is terrific. The coffeshop has a magnificent view of the beach and they serve delicious coffee. It is located at the main road in Avarua.
Tupuna
On Aitutaki, the family-run Café Tupuna is fabulous for an afternoon tea. Try Tauono’s with yummy coconut cake and you may even see Tauono carving traditional wood carvings. The very charming café has a white sand floor and the owner´s floral paintings adorn the walls.
